CINEMATIC STUDIES CENTER
Bilbao, Spain 2023
Located within Bilbao's urban renewal project, the Zorrozaurre Plan by Zaha Hadid, this Cinematic Studies Center is envisioned as a transformative adaptation of a former 1960s office factory in an area once defined by industry. The project aims not only to preserve the building's historical essence but also to breathe new life into it, creating a contemporary educational and cultural hub.
The primary concept focuses on conserving the existing building, where educational and administrative spaces will be housed, preserving its aesthetic integrity. Adjacent to this preserved structure, a new public section willbe added, featuring a double-height space with natural lighting, including a café and projection rooms. This space fosters community interaction and serves as a dynamic zone for gatherings.
Additionally, the design introduces a tower dedicated to workshops and exhibition areas, embodying principles of transparency. Built with a double glass curtain wall, the tower offers uninterrupted views of the Nervión River, creating a visual connection to Bilbao's landscape. Service cores with elevators and wet rooms are positioned along the sides, freeing the central space for flexible, light-filled areas. Constructed with reinforced concrete arld a double curtain wall facade incorporating solar control systoms, the building enhances energy efficiency and comfort. This state-of-the-art facility will host workshops, screenings, and exhibitions, bridging Bilbao's industrial past with its innovative future in the cinematic arts.
